ABOUT

Abby Wolpert is a New York City–based musical theatre lyricist and librettist whose work blends a love of camp with classic musical theatre craft, telling new stories that frequently center women’s voices. She is currently developing a campy, femme-forward adaptation of the cult-classic horror film The Brain That Wouldn’t Die (music by Brandon Scott Grayson). Her one-act musical Don’t Go Out With Peter (music by Jack Theiling) premiered in May 2024. Her original songs have been performed or are forthcoming at The Green Room 42, Berklee NYC Power Station, and The Dramatists Guild of America.

Abby holds an M.A. in Writing and Production for Musical Theater from Berklee College of Music (NYC campus). She is a lyricist in the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop and a member of Maestra and The Dramatists Guild of America. She received further training in musical theatre writing through Musical Creators' Institute, Dramatists Guild Institute, The Barrow Group’s Playwriting Program, and Gotham Writers Workshop.

She began her writing career as a poet, a foundation that continues to inform her lyrical voice and narrative approach. Outside the theatre, her writing has appeared in The Cardiff Review, The Greensboro Review, and The Southern Poetry Anthology Vol. IX: Virginia.
